Development service

Development service is work for a limited period by people possessing work experience and specialist skills on projects and programmes of Germany's current seven recognised development services and their local partner organisations.

Recognition of an organisation as a provider of development services is decided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The criteria for recognition and the status of technical advisers are governed by the Entwicklungshelfer-Gesetz (EhfG – Development Workers Act).

Specialists working as technical advisers differ from other experts working in development cooperation primarily by the fact that they are not seeking to earn an income.

What development services are there? What are the requirements for working for them? What contractual benefits can I expect? This menu provides answers to these and other questions.
