Background and details on Partnership Organisation

Bangladesh is one of the Least Developed Countries, Next Eleven and countries directly affected by the climate change. How to deal with climate change in an innovative way, how to minimize risks and find adaptation solutions is of particular importance to everyone. Our partner organization Christian Commission for Development (CCDB), a strong player in disaster relief and empowerment, is building a climate technology park near Dhaka, dealing with the adaptation of agriculture, fisheries and water supply, innovative solutions in climate risk management (e.g. early warning systems, flood protection, hurricanes and climate-related damage), renewable energies and sustainable building.

A landscaped park with replicas of natural areas and an eco-certified academy with a learning centre for training, conferences and application-oriented research are planned. CCDB is particularly interested in doing so from the root with communities and nongovernmental organisations, professional organisations, universities and other organizations, working together/cooperating and learning from each other within the country, the region and internationally. The necessary technology, an interactive web-based knowledge sharing platform, is ready. As an intercultural bridge, for the expansion of the international network and the professional exchange, CCDB is looking for you as a specialist.

At CCDB you work in a young, very professional and committed team of the climate department. Your colleagues are supporting local communities, focusing on managing climate change and diversifying sources of income. As member of the National Council of Churches, CCDB has approx. 50 colleagues at headquarters and approx. 650 colleagues in national programs.

Job Scope

You support the Climate Unit in establishing the unique climate technology park and therefore raising political awareness, contributing to professional qualifications and the development of innovative technologies. You will be responsible for the knowledge sharing platform, which you will use and develop further for knowledge dissemination, networking and discussions. You will facilitate the processes and discussions.

In detail, you are responsible for the following tasks:

  • Contribute to capacity development and strategic positioning of CCDB as a leading institution in applied climate change adaptation concept development through measures of capacity development on in-house, local, national and regional levels
  • Contribute to the set-up of the climate technology park by developing interactive learning materials for climate learning centre, as well as, thematic exhibitions and display materials
  • Provide strategic guideline for different research related to climate change adaptation and mitigation and disaster risk reduction through networking with national, regional and international institutions
  • Provide writing and editorial support for publications (print and digital) and developing manuscript for peer reviewed journal publications
  • Contribute to the set-up of web-based knowledge hub, content management of this knowledge sharing platform and facilitation of discussions

As professional with CCDB you report directly to the director of the Climate Unit of CCDB.

Qualification Profile

Profound professional experience in climate change, research, international development, technology, education or public relations

  • University or equivalent degree in climate, environmental or natural science or comparable qualification (minimum Bachelor)
  • You are good at texting and editing
  • You have skills in web-based knowledge management platforms and tools
  • Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken)
  • You have an affinity for networks, strong diplomatic skill and performance to communicate with people and to share your knowledge
  • A high resilience and frustration tolerance and a lot of patience round off your profile
  • A high motivation to learn the language Bengali and a willingness to travel for business trips in the region of Southeast Asia complete your profile

The citizenship of a European Union Member State is required.
