Advisor (m/f/d) for micro-hydropower rural electrification

Stellenbeschreibung

Job description

Myanmar remains one of the least developed countries in Southeast Asia with a very low electrification rate. With the adoption of the National Electrification Plan (NEP) in 2015, the Government of Myanmar is spearheading a large-scale rural electrification initiative to provide universal access to electricity by 2030. The NEP outlines various options for rural electrification. In addition to the extension of the national grid, solar home systems and decentralized mini-grids are being implemented in off-grid areas that will not be connected to the main grid for at least 10 years. The isolated power generation and distribution systems are expected to play a vital role in the NEP off-grid rollout. GIZ’s Promotion of Rural Electrification project is working to deliver technical assistance to public and private sector stakeholders to promote Micro and Mini Hydropower Mini Grids.

Your tasks

  • Support in project site identification, site verification, project planning, project design, implementation as well as in operation and management
  • Support in the identification of MHD projects
  • Plan and implement technical training courses
  • Identify and facilitate the transfer of suitable micro-hydropower technology to the local micro-hydropower manufacturing sector
  • Engaging with NGOs, associations and other relevant renewable energy support institutions in the region
  • Supporting geographic information systems based on planning activities to support to the NEP

Your profile

  • University degree in a technical and/or economic subject that is relevant in the context of small-scale renewable energy projects
  • Proven experience with mini-grids as well as with the technical, business, organizational and socio-economic aspects of rural electrification
  • Experience of working in developing countries, in particular rural environments
  • Specific technical knowledge of micro and mini hydropower including familiarity with hydrology and geographic information systems
  • Enjoy transferring technical and methodological skills through advising and training
  • Strong analytical skills, good communication and conflict sensitivity skills
  • Ability to organize your work efficiently as well as to improvise and adjust to unforeseen changes in your work
  • Business fluency in English
