Short-term Development Worker as Digital Ambassador for the Mauritanian Ministry of Environment


Job description

We offer the range of GIZ services for the West Africa region and implement bilateral and regional projects on behalf of various clients in close interaction between internal and external structures. We currently have offices in Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Sierra Leone and maintain antennas of neighboring offices in Guinea and Liberia.

You will accompany the technical design of the existing environmental information system as well as the development of new functionalities (e.g. introduction of a cartography) and support the digital processing of the results and their public access via digital communication channels.

In doing so, you will contribute to making the environmental information system and associated data accessible to other users and providers of environmental data/information. You will be involved in internal coordination and decision-making bodies of the Ministry and advise the Ministry on other digitization projects.

Your tasks

  • Support the developement of the Environmental Informationsystem of the Ministry of Environment
  • Explore and review digital practices for mobile environmental monitoring
  • Assist in the development of a mobile application for monitoring the vegetation cover together with the decentralized environmental services and the technical advice of the field of intervention "Climate Sensitive Management".
  • Disseminate the application to other decentralized resource management programs and projects.

Your profile

  • Degree in computer science or another relevant field or a relevant professional training with several years of practical work experience
  • Experience and interest in organizational development
  • Sensitivity to working in multicultural teams
  • Strong communication, presentation and moderation skills
  • Negotiation skills and clear judgment
  • Ability to work under pressure, systematic approach and high self-drive
  • Negotiating skills in French and solid knowledge of English, knowledge of German would be an advantage

The security situation is tense. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. The freedom of movement is restricted. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. Please note that this position is a short term position! Only candidates can be considered who had already a minimum of 1 year contract as a development worker according to the Entwicklungshelfergesetz (EhfG).
